lakeside campus

visit

The week before Easter we visited Lakeside Campus. The first thing that absolutely surprised me, was how large this site it. The whole site could be divided into three main areas. Bushcraft, Lake and "field".The site itself is very flat at the moment. There is one main building facing the lake, which according our client will be replaced in three (?) years time. The main lake is enormous and will be  an important part in sports activities - for swimming, canoeing ect ... .Then there are spacious fields which will have artificial ground later on and be used for playing soccer or any other sport. On the very end there is a strip of trees which will be used for forests school and bushcraft.

To be absolutely fair, I was a little bit shocked because I had a totally different picture in my head and I started to  give a second think about if my ideas for this site. As this is a quite flat area, I started thinking about if using something "high" elements would interrupt the atmosphere of this site. I did make sure by visiting this site that I want to keep "natural" look of my iconographical elements and not using something "over-futuristic-modern-out-of-this-world".This site is beautiful because of its natural look, trees and lakes surrounding and place for active relax.

Also when I looked back on my ideas, I have found out that my ideas need some reconsideration as I do not have feeling they fits into sport area. I will definitely try to come up with something else which might express the sport centre's nature more.
