One of the first books produced for children was The Visible World by J.A.Komensky. He pointed out that chidren learned more through pictures and attempted to teach them using printed images.

in 1800's very popular nursery rhymes or stories

 

John Newbery bookseller & publisher in France - created a new style of children books which were more for entertainment than for education - Juvenile Library. They were decorative, well designed and in a small format - inexpensive.. Most popular story was The History of Little Goody Two Shoes - considered to be the first written novel  especially for children.

 

Illustration in book were mainly by wood block.
